The Protective Shotgun course introduces students to the versatile role of the shotgun within their Individual Protective System. Known for its devastating stopping power, the shotgun is an effective tool when employed with the right knowledge, skill, and mindset. This course will focus on understanding the strengths and limitations of the shotgun, its applications, and how to maximize its potential in various protective scenarios.
We’ll cover the Protective Mindset, the selection of shotguns and accessories, ammunition considerations, and safety protocols. Students will learn how to efficiently load and change ammunition, pattern a variety of loads, and adopt the proper ready positions for effective shotgun use. Emphasis will be placed on utilizing the environment to enhance the shotgun’s effectiveness.
Students will also gain insight into the use of shotgun slugs, including zeroing and applying precise fire, expanding their understanding of the shotgun’s full capabilities in a protective context. As the course progresses, students will face increasing challenges designed to build proficiency, confidence, and tactical decision-making, all while reinforcing a Protective Mindset.
Prerequisite: No formal prerequisite, but safe shotgun handling is required.
